Job Purpose:
Symbios Health is an independent occupational health provider, offering the full range of occupational health services in Plymouth and to clients further afield which may include overnight stays. The post holder is required to be trained as an Occupational Health Technician, ensuring completion of competencies and ability to deliver occupational health surveillance clinics. The post holder is required to travel and work autonomously.
Responsibilities:
- Provide health surveillance – Dermatology, Audio, Vision, Respiratory, Musculoskeletal, HAVS T1 and HAVS T2, Height, Weight, Blood pressure and Urinalysis.
- Provision of health surveillance clinics to both local Plymouth clients and those further afield which may include overnight stays.
- To read the client overview files and understand the client’s needs including the company services, point of contacts, Employee assistant programmes.
- Provision of health surveillance clinics over various hours not excluding Days, Nights, Earlies and Late shifts.
- Ensure all health surveillance is consistent with Symbios Policy and clinical practice is up to date.
- To always practice within own limitations whereby you have been signed off as competent and escalate as per Symbios pathway.
- To work within clear pathways and to follow protocols. To liaise with OHN’s and/or OHP’s where results are outside of agreed parameters.
- Collect, record and store data accurately and confidentially both in paper and electronic format.
- Maintain the company’s health surveillance equipment, ensuring it is cleaned appropriately and stored safely.
- To communicate effectively with Symbios Health staff and the client’s Human Resources staff.
- Run clinics independently and provide relevant feedback as required, in a timely fashion.
- Have a sound understanding of work-related health problems, including the effects of work on health and health on work.
- Promote healthy living and working conditions.
- Working with professionalism within the multidisciplinary team including human resource staff, health and safety advisors to support good health in the workplace.
- Attend training and evidence learning with in-house presentations to the rest of our team. This may include health promotional presentations and fliers. All learning must be checked by your Clinical lead prior to delivery and not shared outside the company without permission from our company directors.
- To complete all company mandatory training.
- Have a flexible approach to work and ability to utilise transferable skills.
- To have access to a reliable vehicle to travel to various locations for clinics.
- To represent Symbios Health externally.
- Maintain own CPD and undertake all mandatory training requested by Symbios Health.
- A willingness to seek own learning opportunities and complete relevant training courses.
Skills
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Health Surveillance including Audio, Spirometry, Dermatology, MSK, HAVS1 and Vision Screening. FLT (Part 1), Safety Critical Medicals (Part 1).

Training:
- Company mandatory training must be completed within the agreed timeframes
Points of Contact:
- To communicate with medical director and Clinical director regarding medical queries, management referrals etc – clinical discussion as per escalation pathway, annual leave, sickness absence, job description, business enquiries, policies, staff queries, data protection, data breaches and GDPR policies/procedures.
- To communicate with Head of Governance and ISO regarding company compliance, legal and constitutional regulatory compliances and governance policies and procedures and complaints.
- To communicate with Head of Nursing regarding clinical queries, health surveillance, Symbios training and education courses.
- To communicate with Operations Manager regarding client contracts, clinic prices, personal training and requirements, complaints, queries regarding online portal, company policies, Cyber Essentials and protection, Equipment calibrations and renewals, Diary bookings, Invoicing, Payroll, client employee information, Symbios medicals and questionnaires, appointment bookings, annual Leave, Sickness Absence and report proof-reading’s.
- To communicate with Client Relationship Manager: regarding clinic scheduling and diary bookings. Training requests, equipment provision/ calibration and testing, clinic operational issues, sickness absences, annual leave, and payroll.
- To communicate with Company Administrators – To liaise with the admin team regarding clinic scheduling and diary bookings, Apollo queries, Symbios questionnaires and forms, clinic document uploads, client and employee information, company documents, admin tasks and digital portal queries.
